Have You Heard the PowerPoint Groan?
You only need to have been a trainer for a few months to know that people groan when they discover you’ll be teaching from a PowerPoint slide deck.
You’ve probably heard the term, “Death by PowerPoint”. It comes because some trainers and corporate presenters use PowerPoint as their script. They literally read the words out. Others use it to keep on track.
What’s Wrong with a Crutch?
To be fair, it’s not really PowerPoint’s fault that people hate PowerPoint. It’s usually because of the way the trainer uses it. And the way the trainer has designed the slides. And the way it becomes a crutch.
Anyway, a participant inspired me during a recent train-the-trainer workshop I facilitated in Atlanta. During the wrap-up reflection at the end of the week, she told the class she would no longer use PowerPoint as a crutch.
It got me thinking, is there really anything wrong with a crutch? Shouldn’t we be more concerned about what crutch we use? Anyway, I share my thoughts in this short video post.
