Learn how to design training courses that impart knowledge and equip participants with skills to do their work.

Drawing on the ADDIE model and Training Cycle, this course looks shows you how to design training courses that draw on the latest cognitive research into how adults learn.

It equips you with techniques that you can use as you design training courses that will reinforce learning and ensure retention.

Our two-day course on designing training courses covers the basics of adult learning theory and introduces you to the latest learning methods such as e-learning.

It takes you step by step through how to identify a learning need, define it and then develop solutions that will deliver learning transfer and lead to improved performance or new skills.

Learning Objectives

1.  Describe the different ways that adults learn based on the latest adult learning theory and how that relates to instructional design

2.  Discuss how to design learning programs that follow adult learning principles in an organizational context that may or may not support such rigor

3.  Identify the different instructional design methodologies

4.  Analyze organizational performance and training needs by gathering relevant data

5.  Design learning in terms of behavioral objectives and link them to the most effective delivery method

6.  Create your learning program and the resources required to make it effective, including facilitators’ guides and resources, job aids and workbooks, following sound educational theory and practice

7.  Implement learning programs by identifying and mitigating against risks so that they launch with minimal problems

8.  Evaluate the effectiveness of your program and feed that information into future programs

About the course design

Jonathan HallsOur two-day course on Designing Training Courses was designed by Jonathan Halls.  Jonathan has both a bachelors and masters degree in adult education.  He’s been teaching media, communication, leadership and learning theory for two decades.

Jonathan was on the planning committee for the world’s largest learning conference (American Society for Training & Development) for two years running, reviewing the leadership track.   He is currently on the the TechKnowledge Conference Committee.

He is on the panel of judges for the American Society for Training & Development’s BEST Awards.

Halls is an adjunct professor at George Washington University and formerly ran the BBC’s prestigious Production Training department.  This course is facilitated in North America by Jonathan Halls and in Europe by Mhairi Campbell.
