Large Projects Experience

Large project experience is critical when leading and managing change in diverse organizations.

Leadership is different todayWondering how Jonathan Halls & Associates can help your organization with large scale change?

Here are some examples of large scale training projects we’ve rolled out for clients around the globe.

Daily Telegraph, London.

We trained 350 print journalists to become multimedia journalists at Britain’s highest selling quality newspaper.

We designed & delivered the training for our client IFRA Newsplex.  Newsplex provided change consultants to help the Telegraph’s change management team.

The training was designed and led by Jonathan Halls with Gordon Lamont & Julia Bicknell.  (2006/07)

Nottingham Post.

We trained 40 print journalists to become multimedia journalists.  Once again, IFRA Newsplex was helping this newspaper with its change process.

Newsplex commissioned us to design & deliver the skills training program based on our success at the Telegraph.

The training was designed by Jonathan Halls & delivered by Jonathan, Gordon Lamont, Mhairi Campbell & Kevin King.  (2007)

Impressa.

We trained 300 journalists from radio, TV & print to become multimedia journalists at one Portugal’s largest media companies.

This was another commission from IFRA Newsplex.  The learning program was designed by Jonathan Halls & delivered by Peter Allegretti who also conducted the evaluation & refinements.  (2008.)

Leading TrainersMore Experience with Large Scale Training

These do not represent our only large scale training experiences.  Jonathan Halls used to be the BBC executive in charge of production training.

Under his leadership, his team delivered the biggest change project in a generation when network radio went from analogue to digital.  900 members of staff were re-trained.

In addition to this, his teams delivered some of the most ground breaking change programs as television adopted desk top editing, light weight cameras & high definition.

What we Know About Large Scale Training

Large scale training is never easy.  There are two elements to it.  First there are the skills that need to be taught.  Second is the culture.

Skills Training

New skills need to be taught well. This comes down to rigorous instructional design, superior delivery & careful review.

Any trainer or workplace learning professional worth their salt will have been trained to design and deliver top training.  Furthermore they will be able to explain to you why the techniques they have chosen are best for the job.

When you hire a trainer, make sure they understand what instructional design is.  Be sure they follow the accepted industry processes for designing courses.

There may be good reasons to adopt a less conventional approach.  But make sure you are happy with the new approach if this is the case.

Make sure your trainer understands the adult learning techniques that ensure learners will quickly learn, remember & perform the skills to a high standard.

Recent research offers proven methods to achieve this.  Skills training is as much a science as it is an art.

Successful Young LeaderCulture

Your organization needs to be prepared.  It might be argued that no organization is ever ready for change.

This is where many trainers fall short.  They get the skills training right & design terrific training programs.  But they misjudge the organization’s culture & readiness & all that hard work is wasted..

Your organization needs to be prepared so training doesn’t hit resistance.  Many factors cause resistance.  Change professionals will implement actions to mitigate against these.  Unless members of your organization understand the vision & know how their training fits in, they will not buy in to it.
