Interview Scorecard

Conducting Podcast InterviewsInterviews add credibility to your audio as well as variety in vocal tone.

We’re focusing today on factual rather than personality interviews.  As you review your peer’s content, here are some things to look for.

    • Questions
    • Are the questions clear (eg no double barrel questions, and no essays)? = 5
    • Are open and closed questions used appropriately? = 5
    • Is the guest redirected if s/he doesn’t answer the question? =5
    • Does the interviewer listen to the guest’s comments  and add follow-up questions related to what the guest has said, as opposed to ignoring opportunities and following a prepared script of questions? = 5
    • Your Guest
    • Does your guest sound relaxed talking to you?  = 5
    • Does your guest answer your questions? = 5
    • Presentation
    • Does the interviewer sound confident about the questions?
    • Does the interviewer sound good in terms of his/her presentation style and use of the microphone? = 5
    • Technical
    • Is the microphone at the right distance from both the interviewer and the guest? = 5
    • Are the recording levels appropriate for the recording? = 5

Score your presenter for each of these aspects of his/her delivery.  If they are average, give them 3.  If they’re poor, give them 1.  If they’re excellent, give them 5.  Add them up and give your presenter a total score out of 50.

If you give your presenter a score below 3, explain why and what you think s/he needs to do to improve.
