Preparation for PC Laptops
Laptop Specs
Make sure your laptop conforms to have the following specs.
- Microphone socket
- Headphone socket
- USB port
- SD car reader (optional)
- Operating system: 32- or 64-bit version of Windows 7, or Windows Vista with Service Pack 2 and the Platform Update for Windows Vista, or Windows Server 2008 R2, or Windows Server 2008 with Service Pack 2 and the Platform Update for Windows Server 2008. If you have Windows XP on your PC, please contact us for a workaround.
- Processor: 1.6 GHz or higher
- Memory: 1 GB of RAM or higher
- Resolution: 1024 × 576 minimum
- Graphics card: Windows Live Movie Maker requires a graphics card that supports DirectX 9 or higher and Shader Model 2 or higher.
Required Software
Make sure your laptop has the following software installed for use during the workshop. All of this software is free to download from the Web except PowerPoint. When you have installed this software, please fire it up and check it works.
- Windows Moviemaker
- SourceForge Audacity (Not the Beta Version)
- MS PowerPoint
Windows Live Movie Maker
Windows Live Moviemaker does not generally come pre-installed like earlier versions of Movie Maker. You need to download and install it from:

SourceForge Audacity
You can download Audacity free from the following website:
