ASTD Multimedia Certificate

Welcome!

I’m looking forward to welcoming you to two-days of multimedia training with ASTD’s Certificate Program in Multimedia.

This introductory ASTD Certificate Program will give you:

  • an overview of multimedia so you can plan its use in your work as a workplace learning professional
  • an understanding of how to dovetail media psychology with learning theory so your content both looks great and achieves your learning objective
  • the basic knowledge of how to bolt together basic multimedia content which includes audio, video and text-based learnin

Our Focus is on Doing

Our two days together will be a combination of theory and practice.  But we’ll be spending more time on practice.  During the two days, you will produce your own audio podcast plus create your own video.

You’ll be issued your own camera that you can take home with you.  And by using your own laptop, you’ll leave with everything you need to start making basic multimedia content.

We’ve designed this intensive two-day workshop to give you the fundamentals you need to start building multimedia production skills.

But to make this a valuable learning experience, we need you to do three things before leave home.

Three Steps of Preparation

  1. Make sure your computer has the right specs and software
  2. Complete out pre-course survey
  3. Watch three videos

Step One – Prepare Your Laptop Before You Leave Home

Make sure you computer has the right specs and software loaded on it.  We face a big risk when running workshops like this.  That is, having computers fail.

But we’ve found when people are prepared we have no problems.  So a pre-requisite of this course is making sure the laptop you bring with you has the right software installed on it and ready.

Please remember, it’s essential for your experience and the experience of other people in your class, that you do everything to be prepared for this workshop.

Step Two – Complete the Survey 1 Week Ahead of Class

The better we know you, the better we can shape the workshop to meet as many of your individual needs as possible.

Often people come to our workshops with expectations that are not part of the learning objectives.  Some want advice on more advanced issues while others have unique needs.

If we know about these before you come and we feel we can devote some time in class to meeting these without compromising the learning objectives we promise to deliver, we’ll do our best to prepare.  Please note we can’t always branch off from the stated learning objectives but will do it when we can.

So please complete the online survey so we know more about you and your wishes ahead of time

Step Three – Watch These 2 Videos Before Class

Before you come, I’d like you to start thinking about what makes good and bad video.  And how video can aid learning.

At the end of the online survey are links to two short videos I’d like you to watch before the session.

As you watch these three video, write down your initial thoughts and ask yourself, does this help me learn?
